Founded in 1989 by the Alliance for Chemical Distribution (ACD), formerly NACD, the Chemical Educational Foundation (CEF) became a distinct entity in 1997. CEF has maintained a strong connection with ACD members and a broad network of STEM and science-related businesses that are leaders both in the U.S. and globally.
Our programs began with a strong focus on chemistry, proudly launching under the You Be The Chemist® banner. As the industry evolved from chemistry to the broader STEM fields, CEF expanded its scope to include a wider array of subjects. For example, our flagship program, the You Be The Chemist Challenge®, now celebrates the full spectrum of STEM education.
This exciting expansion from a chemistry-focused foundation to embracing all STEM fields highlights our dedication to adapting and growing with the evolving educational and industry landscape. We are thrilled to celebrate the Challenge’s 20th Anniversary in 2024 and CEF’s 35th Anniversary in 2025, marking three and a half decades of inspiring and engaging young minds.
