You probably know that March 14 (3/14) is known as Pi Day, to honor the number that equals the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. Without pi, mathematicians, scientists, and engineers would be lost and without pie, we think the world would be a much sadder place. So how can chemists celebrate Pi Day? Start with some flour, butter, and whatever else your favorite pie recipe calls for! The kitchen is a great place to introduce young students to chemistry and a tasty way to experience the magic of science for students of all ages.
